
History of Texas Hold’em Poker
Like most games the game of poker began as a combination of different games played all over the world. Most games were played with checkers instead of cards. The games were often played in China, the Middle East and in South America.
Poker with cards started in the early 19th century in New Orleans. It was here where all traditional 5 card poker games were evolved and the place where the first legends were born.

While constantly evolving a new version of the game showed up, Texas hold’em poker. Its still not sure where this version of the game first started to being played. The rumour says that Texas hold’em poker was first played in the saloons of Robstown, Texas in beginning of the 20th Century. The popularity of this game spread through the State and was refined there till the middle of the 1950th . Then a well known Texan, Benny Binion, decided to move to
Las Vegas where he bought a casino. He then introduced Texas hold’em poker to the local population. It did not take long before poker became popular in Vegas. It was also during this time that the legendary Doyle Brunson followed in the path of Binion. He would be one of the head characters which helped making Poker as popular as it is today.Binion was an expert at arranging tournaments between high stakes Texas hold’em poker players.
In Las Vegas he continued doing this. In 1970 he organizing a buy- in Texas hold’em poker tournament. In this tournament, which later became the “World series of Poker”, the formula of prize money being divided by the players who reached the final table was first used. In this first “World series of Poker” there were only 50 entrants. Now there are many thousands who enter every year. The entree-fee of today’s ‘’World Series’’ is more than the first prize 1970.
During the 21st century poker had been widely expanded cause of the internet. With the ability to play poker online now millions of people enjoy playing this great game. Poker tournaments are being played all of the time on the internet all over the World. By winning special tournaments some players made their way up to the televised tournaments, with prizes from over hundreds of thousands.Nowadays Texas hold’em poker has evolved into becoming the most popular card game all over the world.And what happened to the people who made it all happen? Benny Binion died in 1989 but his legend lives on in the “World series of Poker” Doyle Brunson still takes part in the ‘’world series’’ every year.
